National CPS Training Program
This National Standardized Certification Course is designed to educate individuals to become a Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. Topics covered include: the importance and need for child passenger safety programs, relevant federal legislation and safety standards, crash dynamics, vehicle occupant protection systems, selection and use of child restraint systems, correct installation of child restraints, misuse and compatibility issues, safety in other vehicles, and other considerations related to child passenger safety.
Teaching strategies include lecture, hands-on practice, and group discussion. The course includes three written quizzes as well as three hands on skills evaluations. Participation in all course activities and successful performance on the quizzes and hands-on skill evaluations leads to national certification as a Child Passenger Safety Technician for two years.
Registration for all certification courses is $75, excluding any applicable late fees. The minimum age requirement for CPS certification is 18 at the time the course starts.
